Karen Smith

Karen A. Smith (she/her) is a vocalist, sound healer, dancer and lifelong student of sacred chant, music and dance from around the world. She shares healing music and movement from a wide variety of genres in a wide variety of settings and her repertoire includes but is not limited to Hawaiian oli, mele and hula, Afro-Cuban and Afro-Brazilian Yoruba chants and folkloric music and dance (and a little percussion), Sanskrit mantras, Haitian sacred and folkloric songs, R & B as well as inspirational music.

She studies and/or performs with numerous cultural organizations in the Bay Area and beyond including Arenas Dance Company, Na Lei Hulu I Ka Wekiu, Brasarte, Cuba Caribe, Alafia Dance Ensemble, Las Que Son Son, Omi Ashe, Yoga of the Voice, of course WeSing and many more. She also conducts Ho’oponopono and sacred sound and movement workshops in Bay Area spiritual communities. She has a background in BioPsychology and is committed to the belief in the power of sound and music to heal and connect us all. When not indulging in her love of the sounds of the world she is making beautiful Orisha themed jewelry or baking delicious pies. A New York native of Jamaican, West-African and Native American ancestry, Karen feels honored and grateful for the opportunity to share her gifts with the ABA Family.
